He no longer invests that way if you look at his web page. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics 500,000 dollars in 1984 would be 1,018,000 dollars in 2008. That said, this book inspired my own early retirement and any admirer of it, and the Terhorsts, is a friend of mine.
